INTRODUCTION
Last week, we made a distinction. The reason your revenue-building work keeps getting pushed to tomorrow isn't that you don't have time. It's that the two kinds of work, running the business and growing it, are competing in the same unprotected pool of hours. And the running work wins every time, because it's louder and more urgent.
The shift I left you with was this: you don't need more time to grow your business. You need grow your business time the running your business work can't reach. One protected block. Fifteen minutes. Pre-decided. Nothing else allowed in.
And I ended with a promise. That this week we'd look at what a revenue system actually does on a normal day. Not in theory. Inside a real week, with real constraints. And I said I thought it would be simpler than you were expecting.
I meant that. Let me show you what I mean.
THE TUESDAY QUESTION
Can I ask you something? Not as a challenge. Just genuinely.
If I asked you right now what happened in your business today while you were doing everything else, the school run, the meetings, the ten other things that demanded your attention, could you tell me?
Not everything. Just the revenue-related stuff. Did a new contact come in? Did anyone move a step closer to buying? Did a follow-up land with someone who needed it? Is there anything in motion that you didn't have to manually push today?
For a lot of the women I work with, the honest answer to that question is something like: I don't actually know. Not because they're not working. Not because they don't care. But because the business isn't designed to show them.
If you're listening from a stolen fifteen minutes, school run done, kids down, a quiet working morning before the day picks up, this one is for you. By the end of this episode you'll be able to describe exactly what a revenue system does on a normal day in your business. Not in a launch week. Not in a big push. A Tuesday. And once you can see it clearly, I think you'll wonder why it ever felt as complicated as it has.
THE PICTURE IN YOUR HEAD
Here's what I think is actually in the way. And it's not complexity. It's the picture in your head of what a "revenue system" even is.
When most people hear those words, revenue system, they picture something that belongs to a scaled business. A team. A tech stack someone spent six weeks building. Infrastructure that looks like something a company with twenty employees runs, not something a mum solopreneur puts together between school pick-up and client calls.
That image makes it feel inaccessible before you've even begun to understand it. And when the picture is that complicated, the natural response is to put it off. Who has time for that? You already have enough on your plate.
I want to replace that picture. Because the version I'm describing today is not complicated. It's not something that requires a team or six weeks of setup. It's three things. Three observable markers. And if all three are present on a regular working day, the system is working.
That's the whole test.
THE ORDINARY TUESDAY TEST
I call this the Ordinary Tuesday Test.
Three markers: visibility, movement, and maintenance. When all three are present, you have a working revenue system. Not a perfect one. Not a fully automated one. A working one. And for a mum solopreneur building a business inside a real, full life, working is exactly the right target.
Let me walk through each marker, because each one does something specific for your business and for you.
VISIBILITY — Knowing Without Chasing
The first marker is visibility.
On a normal day, a working revenue system makes something visible without you having to chase it. A lead came in. A nurture sequence is running. An email went out. Something happened in your business today, and you can see that it happened. Without you having to go looking for it. Without you having to reconstruct it from memory. Without you opening four different apps trying to piece the picture together.
I want to spend a moment here, because I think this is the marker that lands hardest, and the one that's most frequently missing.
Most of us have built businesses that require us to hold everything in our heads. You know roughly how many enquiries you've had this month. You have a sense of who's interested. You're tracking a few conversations in your memory, a few more in a notes app, maybe one in an email thread you keep meaning to come back to. The information exists. But it lives in you, not in the business.
I'm not saying this to call you out. I've felt versions of this myself. When I was building the early layers of my business, I genuinely thought I was organised because I could tell you what was going on, if you asked me and I had a clear moment to think. But that's not visibility. That's memory. And memory is not a system.
Here's the thing I want you to hear clearly: this is not a disorganisation problem. Visibility was never built in. You've been running a business that was designed, not by choice but by default, to require you to hold everything. And when you're also holding the mental load of a family, a home, children who need you, everything outside the business door, carrying the business in your head on top of all of that is not just difficult. It's unsustainable.
The system doesn't just make things visible. It makes things visible for you, without your active effort. You're not starting the day from scratch, wondering what's there.
Think about the difference between walking into a kitchen where you know what's in the fridge and what's been used up, versus opening the fridge cold with no idea what you're working with, trying to figure out what to make from whatever's left. The cooking is the same task. The effort is completely different. That's what visibility changes.
MOVEMENT — Forward Motion That Doesn't Need Your Hands
The second marker is movement.
On a normal day, something moved forward without your direct involvement. A new contact progressed through a sequence. A follow-up was triggered at the right moment. The business did something you didn't have to manually do. Something moved, and you didn't have to be the one who moved it.
I want to be clear about what this means and what it doesn't. I'm not talking about automation that removes you from your business. I'm talking about sequencing, the simple structural logic of: when this happens, this happens next. A new enquiry arrives. The system acknowledges it. A follow-up is prepared. A nurture email goes out. The process doesn't wait for you to remember. It runs.
This is what makes a business genuinely workable inside a real, full life.
Because here's what happens without it, and I want to name this honestly. Every day you're not actively in the business is a day nothing moves. School holidays, sick kids, a week where life asks everything of you, those weeks aren't just inconvenient. They're expensive. The pipeline stalls. The conversations that might have progressed don't. The contacts who were warming toward a decision go cold, not because they changed their minds, but because the follow-up never came.
And when you come back, tired and behind and catching up, there's a gap to close before you can move forward again. That cycle is exhausting. And it's structural, not personal. It's not about your commitment or your effort. It's about whether the business was designed to move without you, or whether it requires your hands on it every single day.
Movement doesn't mean you disappear. You're still the architect. You're still in the conversations that matter, making the decisions that need you. But the gap between those conversations, the space where a business either keeps going or goes quiet, that's what the system should be filling. Not waiting.
MAINTENANCE — The Almost-Quiet Marker
The third marker is maintenance. And this one is subtle, so I want to name it carefully.
On a normal day, maintenance is small and specific. You check one thing. You update one thing. You don't rebuild anything.
That's what a working system feels like. Almost quiet. Not demanding. Not a list of urgent tasks that appeared overnight. Just present. Just there. Doing its job.
When maintenance is light, it's a signal that the system is running rather than requiring constant repair. You're not spending your Tuesday morning figuring out why something broke. You're not trying to reconstruct a process you set up three months ago and can't quite remember. You're checking in, looking at what happened, making one small update if something needs it, and then getting on with your day.
I think this marker gets the least attention, but for a mum solopreneur managing a full life alongside a business, it might be the most important one. Because the systems that consume more time than they save aren't systems. They're obligations. And the last thing you need is another obligation dressed up as a solution.
A working system protects your time rather than consuming it. When maintenance feels light, when you can check in on your business in the same way you'd glance at a message rather than the way you'd brace yourself for a difficult conversation, that's the signal that the three markers are all doing their job.
WHAT THESE THREE MARKERS ACTUALLY DO
Here's what I want you to sit with for a moment.
These three markers, visibility, movement, maintenance, they're not describing a complicated system. They're describing what it feels like when you have one. They're the observable evidence that something is running so you don't have to run it.
And when all three are present, something shifts. It's not dramatic. It's quiet. It's the feeling of putting something down that you didn't realise you were still holding.
Because what you've been carrying, the mental load of tracking, remembering, chasing, following up, wondering, keeping tabs, that's not a small thing. It's cumulative. It's the background hum that's always on, even when you're in mum mode, even when you're meant to be present somewhere else. And it's a cost you've been paying without naming it, because there was no alternative until there was.
This isn't a reflection on how capable you are. I want to say that clearly, because I've seen how many brilliant, hardworking women assume the weight they're carrying is just normal. That everyone runs a business this way and they're just somehow less able to manage it. They're not. The weight is real. The weight is structural. And it has a structural answer.
The system is the alternative. Not someday. Not when you have more time or more capacity or feel more ready. The simple, honest, three-marker version of it is not a distant goal. It's a design question. And asking the question is already further forward than most people get.
None of what I've described today requires you to do more. It requires the business to do more, to hold more, to show more, to carry more of what you've been carrying in your head. That's a very different ask. And it's the one that actually changes what a Tuesday feels like.
YOUR ONE THING THIS WEEK
Here's what I want you to do this week. And I want to be clear: this is not a building task. Not a setup task. Not something that requires an hour.
Pick one of the three markers, just one, and honestly ask yourself whether it's present in your business right now.
Is there something your business shows you without you having to go looking? Is there anything that moves forward on the days when you're not actively pushing it? Does maintenance feel small and specific, or does keeping up feel like a rebuild every time?
Just one marker. One honest look. You're not fixing anything yet. You're not designing anything. You're just seeing what's there and what isn't. That clarity is not a small thing. It's the starting point. And you'll know exactly when you've done it, because you'll have a clear answer to the question. Not a feeling, not a sense. An answer.
A revenue system isn't something you run. It's something you check, so you can get on with your life.
SUMMARY
